Starlink Australia – Regional Queensland Setup, Costs & Referral

I recently signed up for Starlink for my micro-farm in Murgon, a regional town in Queensland’s South Burnett.

Internet isn’t optional for me. I need it to run my business, website and online shop, manage email and social media, and for everyday life.

I used a friend’s Starlink referral link when I signed up, which means my second month of service is free.

If you’re considering Starlink in Australia, you can do the same using my referral link.

At the time of writing, if you sign up for Starlink using my referral link, we both get one month of Starlink service free.

Why I chose Starlink over nbn

I’ve been using the nbn since it became available in Murgon. It does the job, but speed issues and outages have been a fairly regular frustration.

Leroyd Street is different. My block doesn’t already have an nbn connection. Depending on the property, establishing a new nbn connection can involve additional connection and infrastructure costs, so Starlink gave me a much simpler way to get connected.

Starlink was also considerably cheaper than I expected.

The Starlink hardware was free, so I could potentially have got connected without paying anything upfront. I opted for professional installation for $70, which comes with a money-back guarantee after 30 days if I’m not happy with the service.

Cost was ultimately the deciding factor.

I had been a firm believer in supporting Australian businesses and had stayed with Telstra for that reason. But there comes a point where affordability has to win. I have to have internet, and I simply couldn't justify the cost of Telstra internet when Starlink could (hopefully!) provide the service I need for considerably less.

At $75 a month, I’m willing to give Starlink a go and see how it performs in the real world at Leroyd Street.
